Royal Society of Health, Faculty of Public Health, UK Public Health Register

2nd ANNUAL CONFERENCE FOR THE SPECIALISED HEALTH PROMOTION WORKFORCE

MONDAY 17 DECEMBER 2007: UNIVERSITY OF STAFFORDSHIRE

Moving Forward Across the British Isles

Background
The Royal Society of Health, the Faculty of Public Health, the UK Public Health Register and Institute of Health Promotion and Education are working together to take forward the recommendations of the 2005 report Shaping the Future of Public Health on the specialised health promotion workforce, in partnership with other organisations. The work of the Collaboration, including the conference, is funded by the UK Departments of Health.

The Collaboration held a highly successful first conference in October 2006 and held a second conference on 17 December 2007. This year's conference was open to the four UK nations and the Republic of Ireland were invited to participate.

Aims - to build on the 2006 conference by:

  • Celebrating the 21st birthday of the Ottawa Charter and the International Union of Health Promotion and Education Conference, Vancouver, 2007 – Health Promotion Comes of Age
  • Emphasising the value of health promotion, now and in the future, in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland
  • Addressing issues raised at last year's conference and providing information about progress with implementing the recommendations of the report Shaping the Future of Public Health: Promoting Health in the NHS
  • Enabling delegates to share and discuss work on health promotion topics, settings, wider determinants of health, and workforce development

The event was attended by more than 120 specialised health promotion staff from across the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Delegate feedback was extremely positive and supported the collaboration between the FPH, RSH, UKPHR and IHPE to represent, support and acknowledge the health promotion work sector.

Major issues raised at the conference will be taken forward by the FPH, RSH, UKPHR and IHPE. Register your interest elsewhere on this website and you will be notified about future developments and ways to become involved in ongoing work.

If you have any questions concerning the conference please email Jenny Griffiths or telephone 01483 474240.
